9 AM Katia update

Hurricane Katia looks very healthy on satellite imagery as shown below, with winds of 100 mph, and cold cloud tops wrapping symmetrically around the now large eye. Expect Katia to strengthen to category 3 status (115 mph+) within 24 hours, if it’s not there already. Movement is still officially NW, although it has been moving more WNW in the last few hours. It will be interesting to see if this motion continues or if its just a wobble. I’m still thinking this will not make landfall, but will come close to OBX and Cape Cod later this week and weekend. Rough surf and dangerous rip currents will continue to increase along the entire eastern seaboard thoughout the week. Impacts will be minimal at worst in the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys.
